2024 Declared Hottest Year on Record by German Weather Agency
The German Weather Service (DWD) announced that 2024 is set to be the hottest year recorded since comprehensive temperature measurements began in 1881. Despite recent temperature drops, 2023 also ranks as a record year. DWD board member Tobias Fuchs pointed to human-induced greenhouse gases and other factors like solar activity and El Niño as causes for rising temperatures. The EU’s Copernicus program reported varied temperatures across Europe, with anomalies particularly in northern Russia and northeastern Europe, while southeastern regions remained cooler.
