30 Years of the Irish Primary Health Care Traveller Project: Bridging Health Gaps
A national conference at Croke Park celebrates 30 years since the establishment of the Irish Primary Health Care Traveller Project (PHCTP). Launched in 1994, the initiative aimed to improve health access for the Traveller community through trained health workers. Over the years, the project has shown significant impact, including increased screening rates for breast cancer among Traveller women and greater awareness of health issues. However, challenges remain, as highlighted by inequalities identified in the All-Ireland Traveller Health Study in 2010 and the need for sustained funding for health initiatives.
