Lahore Shuts Down Schools Amid Record Smog Levels
In response to alarming air quality, Lahore, Pakistan’s second-largest city, will close schools for one week to protect young children from hazardous smog. On Saturday, air quality levels reached 40 times above the World Health Organization’s acceptable limit. The decision, announced by Punjab’s minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, affects all public and private classes for children up to 10 years old. Authorities will reassess the situation next Saturday based on weather conditions and pollution forecasts. Prolonged exposure to smog poses serious health risks, especially for children, prompting urgent measures to address the environmental crisis.
