German Citizen Arrested in Russia for Sabotage of Energy Infrastructure
A German citizen, Nikolai Gaiduk, has been arrested in Russia’s Kaliningrad region on charges of sabotage related to an explosion at a gas distribution station in March 2024. The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) reports that Gaiduk was caught with half a liter of liquid explosives hidden in a shampoo box as he re-entered the country from Poland. He allegedly received orders from a Ukrainian citizen, Alexander Zorov, also residing in Hamburg. This case raises concerns about an increase in sabotage and terrorism-related charges in Russia since the onset of the Ukraine conflict in February 2022.
