Energy Price Crisis Reveals Flaws in Greece’s Electricity Pricing Model

Dimitris Fourlaris, Vice President of the Regulatory Authority for Waste, Energy, and Water, acknowledged to ERTnews that the ongoing energy price rally has exposed weaknesses in the electricity pricing calculation model. He emphasized the need for a permanent support mechanism for consumers during crises and highlighted Greece’s challenges in energy connectivity, particularly due to limited interconnections with other countries. Despite these issues, Fourlaris noted Greece’s energy self-sufficiency and export capabilities, while critiquing the European Commission’s reluctance to revise the target model amidst geopolitical challenges.
