Spread of Sheep Pox Disease Continues to Affect Livestock in Greece
The number of sheep pox outbreaks in the Rodopi region has reached 39, with over 8,400 animals euthanized. Throughout the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace region, cases have risen to 214, with more than 39,000 animals affected. Despite protective measures, non-compliance among farmers is hindering progress, prompting the potential for fines and loss of compensation rights. While vaccination is not currently being considered, it could lead to significant declines in the quality of dairy and meat products for at least a decade.
