Israeli Airstrikes in Palmyra Leave 82 Dead, Including Militia Members

Recent Israeli airstrikes on Palmyra, an ancient city in central Syria, have resulted in 82 fatalities and 31 injuries, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. Among the deceased are 56 Syrians affiliated with Iranian-backed militias. The airstrikes, part of Israel’s operations against Iranian influence in Syria, have escalated since mid-September. Palmyra, a UNESCO World Heritage site, has faced severe destruction over the years, particularly during the rise of the Islamic State.
