France Seeks Delay on EU Emission Sanctions for Automakers

The French government is pushing the European Commission to delay sanctions against automakers that fail to meet CO2 emission targets by 2025. Economy Minister Antoine Armand emphasized that imposing harsh penalties could undermine investment and benefit Asian competitors. He advocates for exemption from fines for manufacturers committed to electric vehicle electrification. This comes as car manufacturers are required to comply with stricter emissions standards under the CAFE regulations, which demand progressively cleaner vehicles. Armand will discuss this issue at upcoming meetings in Brussels.
