A 57-year-old woman in the United States has undergone a successful double lung transplant carried out entirely by a robot at NYU Langone Health. The innovative procedure aims to speed up recovery and reduce hospital stays. The patient, Cheryl Mercar, had struggled with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and received a compatible donor organ quickly after being placed on the transplant list. The robot-assisted surgery significantly reduced incision size, allowing for a less invasive procedure.
