Josep Borrell Affirms EU’s Obligation to Enforce International Criminal Court Warrants
Josep Borrell, the EU’s chief diplomat, stated that European Union countries must enforce International Criminal Court warrants against Israeli officials and a Hamas commander. During a visit to Cyprus for a symposium, he emphasized that adherence to the Rome Statute is mandatory for both existing and candidate EU member states. Borrell criticized allegations of antisemitism against those who oppose Israeli government policies and expressed the right to critique any Israeli administration without facing such accusations. The ICC has issued warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and Hamas military leader Ibrahim Al-Masri for war crimes.
