Founded in 2012 on Facebook, the ‘Kairika Nea Thrakis’ group has grown to 53,000 members, led by firefighter Dimitris Evgenidis and environmental engineering professor Alexandra Gemitzi. Their mission is to accurately inform the Thracian community about weather patterns using data from five meteorological stations in Rodopi. They aim to expand their network and evolve into an environmental observatory that will also provide data on water resources and precipitation, addressing issues of drought and irrigation.
