Unicef Warns of Rising HIV Infections Among Young Women Globally

Unicef has raised alarms over the rising rates of HIV infections among young women, with 96,000 new cases reported globally for females aged 15-19 in the past year. This demographic accounted for 70% of infections in this age group, while young men reported 41,000 cases. The total infections among 0-19 year-olds reached 250,000 in 2023. East and Southern Africa are particularly affected, though advancements have been made in reducing infections among younger populations. Despite progress, access to treatment remains unequal for minors, with a rising concern over AIDS-related deaths.
