Social Democrats Lead in Romanian Parliamentary Elections Amid Rise of Far-Right Parties
Preliminary forecasts indicate that the Social Democrats remain the dominant force in Romania’s parliamentary elections, securing approximately 26% of the vote. However, far-right parties, particularly the AUR, have seen significant gains, potentially benefiting from the success of far-right presidential candidate Calin Georgescu. Other parties like the USR and PNL are projected to achieve around 15.5% each. New far-right parties S.O.S. Romania and POT are also expected to enter parliament for the first time, each polling at 5.5%. Georgescu’s candidacy may further influence these trends.
