Global Arms Sales Surge to $632 Billion Amid Geopolitical Tensions
In 2023, the world’s top 100 arms manufacturers reported weapon sales totaling $632 billion, marking a 4.2% increase from the previous year. The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (Sipri) attributed this growth to rising militarization in regions such as Asia, the Middle East, the USA, and Europe. While US companies dominate the market with $317 billion in sales, European firms struggle to expand production. The arms industry seeks long-term purchase guarantees from governments, who are hesitant to commit due to financial concerns and uncertain geopolitical futures.
