A recent study reveals a concerning rise in solo bicycle accidents in Germany, particularly during winter months. The data shows that one third of fatal accidents involve no other road users, with poor infrastructure cited as a major cause. The study, conducted by the Insurance Research Institute (UDV), highlights that nearly 27,400 accidents occurred without third-party involvement in 2023, resulting in significant injuries and fatalities.
