Dutch Men Sentenced to Prison for Drowning Incident at Ghent Festival
Two Dutch men have received prison sentences of four and two years in Belgium for the drowning death of a 53-year-old local during the Ghent Festival in the summer of 2022. The victims, who were under the influence of drugs and alcohol, tossed the man, who could not swim, into a canal. The court criticized the defendants for failing to intervene when they realized the victim was in distress. Both men expressed remorse during the trial but were found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and negligence.
