United States Expands Export Restrictions on Computer Chips to China
The United States has implemented its third round of export restrictions to prevent China from acquiring advanced computer chips, aiming to curb China’s advancement in artificial intelligence and military capabilities. The measures affect 24 types of chip-making equipment previously exempt from restrictions. Non-American companies using U.S. software or hardware will also be compelled to comply. Additionally, 140 Chinese entities will be added to a blacklist, with companies needing a license to engage in trade with these parties, which is unlikely to be approved.
