Romania’s Constitutional Court Upholds First Round of Presidential Elections

Romania’s Constitutional Court has unanimously upheld the results of the first round of the presidential elections, rejecting a challenge from Cristian Terhes, a minor right-wing party leader. The first round saw independent candidate Călin Georgescu winning approximately 23% of the votes, followed by center-right candidate Elena Lasconi with around 19%. Terhes claimed irregularities concerning votes for a withdrawn candidate but after a recount of over 8 million votes, no discrepancies were found. The second round of elections is scheduled for this Sunday.
