Global Plastic Use to Triple by 2060, OECD Warns
According to OECD projections, global plastic usage is expected to nearly triple from 2019 to 2060, posing a significant environmental threat. Negotiations in Busan for a global treaty on plastic pollution failed, with the OECD highlighting that over 90% of plastics are not recycled. While developed countries will still consume the most plastic per capita, rapidly developing regions such as India and Sub-Saharan Africa will see a steep increase in consumption. The OECD insists that comprehensive measures could potentially halt plastic waste by 2040.
