Greece to Introduce International Baccalaureate Program in Public Schools by 2026

Greek Minister of Education, Health and Sports, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, discussed the prospect of introducing the International Baccalaureate (IB) program in public schools during a meeting in Geneva. Beginning in September 2026, students in five model high schools will have the option to choose between the IB and the traditional university admission system. The initiative aims to enhance educational opportunities and is recognized by universities worldwide. Currently, the IB is only available in Greece through private schools.
