Gerard O’Mahony, the former President of the Irish Athletic Boxing Association, has been sentenced to 39 months in prison for sexually assaulting a woman he had mentored, after a jury found him guilty. The 67-year-old was also convicted of taking an inappropriate photograph of the victim. During the trial, the victim shared how she had viewed O’Mahony as a father figure while detailing the grooming process he employed. Sentencing took into account O’Mahony’s age and health, suspending nine months of his sentence, while the victim expressed hope that sharing her story would empower others.
