Namibia Elects Its First Female President, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah
Namibia has made history by electing its first female president, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah of the SWAPO party, who received 57% of the votes. Her main opponent, Panduleni Itula of the IPC, garnered 26%. The election coincided with parliamentary elections, where SWAPO retained a majority with 51 out of 96 seats. Despite the victory, the IPC plans to challenge the results in court, citing serious issues during the voting process. Nandi-Ndaitwah, previously the vice president, has a long history with the SWAPO party since the 1960s.
