UNESCO Recognizes Fairground Culture as Intangible Heritage
UNESCO has officially included the ‘fairground culture’ in its list of intangible cultural heritage, following a joint request from France and Belgium. This recognition celebrates a nomadic lifestyle rich in traditions that fosters community and social cohesion through funfairs and fairs. The application highlights the significant role of fairgrounds in bringing families and friends together, promoting peace and interaction among diverse groups. Steve Severyns, a representative of the Belgian fairground community, emphasized the importance of this recognition for their culture.
