Switzerland’s Beznau Nuclear Power Plants Scheduled for Shutdown by 2033
Axpo, the operator of Switzerland’s Beznau nuclear power plants, has announced plans to shut down the two reactors, with Block 2 closing in 2032 and Block 1 in 2033. Beznau, the world’s oldest operating nuclear power station, has been in service since 1969 and has produced approximately 6 terawatt-hours of electricity annually. The decision follows extensive safety evaluations and significant investments to modernize the plants.
