Protesters in the suburb of Jaramana, near Damascus, have torn down a statue of Hafez al-Assad, former president of Syria and father of the current president Bashar al-Assad. Witnesses and activists reported that demonstrators, primarily Druze residents, called for the ousting of Bashar al-Assad and marched towards government buildings housing various security service branches.
