Unrest in Damascus Following Rebel Occupation
The Greek Ambassador to Damascus, Nikolaos Protopnotarios, reported that gunfire has continued since the rebels took control of the city early in the morning. With a curfew in effect, approximately 50-60 Greek families remain in the area. The ambassador advised them to stay in their homes, while noting the disorganized nature of the rebels leading to looting. The Greek embassy’s staff plans to evacuate due to deteriorating security conditions. As of December 8th, there have been no requests from Greeks in Syria for repatriation.
