Garda Commissioner Defends Release of Riot Photographs for Investigation
Garda Commissioner Drew Harris justified the release of 99 images of ‘persons of interest’ linked to last year’s Dublin riots, stating that it was essential and proportionate given the serious nature of the offenses. Although An Garda Síochána did not consult the Data Protection Commission prior to the release, Harris emphasized that a data protection assessment was conducted within the organization. Harris noted that 90 individuals were identified through the photographs, contributing to the ongoing investigation into the violence that left several injured and damaged property.
