Record Number of Journalists Killed in 2024, According to International Federation of Journalists
The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) reports that 104 journalists were killed globally in 2024, with a significant portion in the Gaza Strip. General Secretary Anthony Bellanger highlights this year’s toll as one of the worst, surpassing previous years, particularly in the context of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas starting October 2023. The report indicates a dramatic increase in danger for journalists in various regions, notably in the Asia-Pacific and Europe, where war continues to claim lives.
