Australia Enacts Law to Ban Social Media Access for Minors Under 16
Australia has introduced a law prohibiting social media access for individuals under 16, while Greece is considering similar restrictions for minors. Legal expert George Sakellariadis and Maria Bakalidou, Director of Schools of the Greek Community in Melbourne, discussed the challenges of enforcing age restrictions without infringing on privacy. They highlighted concerns over information quality and children’s interactions with technology post-pandemic. Bakalidou emphasized the importance of balancing personal data privacy with the effectiveness of such laws, alongside existing regulations banning mobile phone use in schools.
