France Delays Asylum Requests from Syrian Nationals Amid Ongoing Crisis
The French Office for the Protection of Refugees and Stateless Persons (Ofpra) has announced a delay in reviewing 700 asylum requests from Syrian nationals to ensure informed decisions aligned with the current situation in Syria. Director Julien Boucher emphasized the necessity of thorough examination, especially following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime. Currently, France houses about 45,000 Syrian refugees, with a total of 2,500 new requests received, of which 700 remain pending. The Ofpra aims to deliver quality decisions while ensuring non-refoulement protection for applicants.
