Employees Return to Syrian Central Bank After Regime Change

Employees of the Central Bank of Syria returned to work for the first time since the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad’s regime over the weekend. Mohamed al-Imam, a bank official, reported minor thefts were recorded, with some money being reclaimed thanks to security camera footage. Commercial banks reopened for half days, and rebels imposed a curfew in the capital from 4 PM to 5 AM until security is restored. The Central Bank ensured that citizens’ deposits remain safe.
