Reporters Without Borders (RSF) urged for the prosecution of Bashar al-Assad for the murder of 181 journalists since the 2011 revolution. The organization expressed concern for those currently detained in Syria, including recently freed journalists. RSF highlighted the brutality faced by media professionals under Assad’s regime, which ranks Syria among the worst countries for press freedom. Additionally, RSF criticized the radical group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham for its role in the repression of journalists and called for accountability and the release of all detained journalists.
