Donald Trump Appoints Tom Barrack as U.S. Ambassador to Turkey
President-elect Donald Trump has named Tom Barrack, a longtime friend and informal advisor during his 2016 campaign, as the next U.S. Ambassador to Turkey. Barrack, who previously chaired the inauguration committee for Trump’s presidency and has served as a consultant on Middle Eastern policy, faced criminal charges in 2021 for unregistered lobbying but was acquitted in 2022. Trump’s ambassadorial selections will require Senate approval, which will soon have a Republican majority.
