Concerns Raised Over Chronic Understaffing in Greek Juvenile Services Amid Rising Youth Delinquency
Amid a dramatic rise in juvenile delinquency cases, the Greek Association of Juvenile Court Counsellors has reported severe understaffing in juvenile services. In 2024 alone, around 1,500 new cases have emerged within the Athens Juvenile Counselling Department, which operates with only 12 staff members. The association warns that the situation is even worse in regional services and criticizes a new Justice Ministry organization that threatens to exacerbate staffing shortages while broadening local service responsibilities.
