Loneliness is becoming a significant issue for the elderly population in Greece, particularly for those over 65. Ioannis Karaitianos, President of the Hellenic Gerontological and Geriatric Society, emphasized the need for companionship and social interaction. He noted a shift in family dynamics that has weakened bonds with the elderly. Ritsa Doutsou, spokesperson for the Greek Association of Beneficiaries ‘Roommates for Friends 60+’, highlighted the organization’s growth and the importance of cohabitation and various activities for improving daily life amid challenges posed by loneliness and financial difficulties.
