Rising Tragedies on Crete’s Roads: Motorcycle Accident Victims Highlight Urgent Need for Safety
A critical situation unfolds in Crete as a motorcyclist fights for his life in the hospital following a serious accident, while the community mourns a 16-year-old also lost to a road incident. According to Giannis Lionakis, President of the Hellenic Association for Road Safety Prevention (PROTA), 59 fatalities have been recorded this year in Crete, with 18 of them being young individuals under 24. In response, local fuel station owners, led by Giannis Drakakakis, are initiating a campaign to deny fuel to young riders without helmets.
