Ireland Pauses Asylum Decisions for Syrian Refugees Amid Uncertainty

Ireland’s Minister for Justice, Helen McEntee, announced a temporary pause on asylum decisions for Syrians due to the recent overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad. She emphasized that decisions must align with the current situation in Syria, which remains uncertain. Though affecting a small number of applicants, McEntee expressed hope for a resolution in the coming weeks. Several European nations, including Britain and Germany, are also reviewing asylum requests from Syrians, while Austria plans to deport some back to Syria.
