Julien Ruas Faces Maximum Sentence for Role in 2018 Marseille Building Collapse
Julien Ruas, former deputy mayor of Marseille, has been recommended a three-year prison sentence for his indirect role in the November 2018 building collapse on Rue d’Aubagne that resulted in eight fatalities. The prosecutor, Michel Sastre, criticized Ruas for his failure to act on the alarming number of unsanitary properties in the city, highlighting a lack of proactivity in safeguarding residents. Sixteen defendants are involved in the trial, with the building owners facing the most severe penalties.
