As climate change leads to shorter winters and a lack of snowfall, ski resorts are turning to ‘snowfarming’ to cultivate and preserve snow. This 16-year research project in Davos demonstrates how insulating snow with sawdust helps maintain snow volume through the summer. Despite challenges, artificial snow is created for winter sports, ensuring a four-kilometer ski trail is ready for athletes and tourists, though large-scale implementation is limited. Researchers continue to explore ways to improve this technology while a traditional snowy Christmas remains uncertain.
