Investigation Clears Police Officers in Water Pistol Arrest of 13-Year-Old Boy

The Independent Office for Police Conduct concluded that armed officers acted ‘reasonable’ when they arrested a 13-year-old boy in Hackney, London, after mistaking his water pistol for a real firearm. Despite the distress caused to the child, known as ‘Child X’, the investigation found no misconduct by the officers. The decision faced criticism from the Alliance for Police Accountability, which supported the boy’s family.
