Tips for Viewing the Geminid Meteor Shower: What to Know

The upcoming Geminid meteor shower can be readily viewed without special equipment, requiring only patience, warm clothing, and a dark location. Shyam Balaji, an expert from King’s College London, recommends the best viewing time at around 2am local time, though observations can start in the evening. The meteors are best observed towards the constellation Gemini, near the star Castor. While the shower can produce up to 150 meteors an hour, full moonlight may obscure some sightings.
