World’s Largest Iceberg A23a Moves North After Years of Being Trapped

The world’s largest iceberg, A23a, which is over twice the size of Greater London, is drifting north after being trapped for most of the year in a vortex near the South Orkney Islands. Breaking free from Antarctica in 1986, A23a became lodged in the Weddell Sea for over three decades before starting to move again in 2020. Experts suggest that as it continues its journey north, it is likely to break up and melt.
