The impact of Hurricane Chido on the French overseas territory of Mayotte in the Indian Ocean is reportedly far worse than initially believed, with local officials estimating hundreds of fatalities. Following the storm, which reached speeds of over 220 km/h, many areas have been left severely damaged, particularly impoverished neighborhoods. Emergency shelters are being set up for approximately 100,000 residents affected by the destruction, while numerous households remain without power.
