Sir Alan Bates has urged for accountability for the ‘real baddies’ behind the Post Office scandal during the final submissions of a long-running inquiry into the Horizon IT disaster. More than 900 sub-postmasters faced wrongful prosecution due to flaws in the accounting system. Bates emphasized the need for justice as victims’ lawyers highlighted the destructive culture of the Post Office, which has devastated numerous lives, including some leading to suicides. The inquiry, which has heard from numerous witnesses, is set to conclude with a report next year.
