Teacher Shortage Remains Critical in Dutch Education System

The shortage of teachers and school leaders in the Netherlands persists, affecting primary, secondary, and vocational education. While the number of newcomers from other professions remains at a record high, primary schools are still short 7,700 full-time teachers. Although recent funding allowed for temporary staffing increases, these measures will expire, leading to an expected rise in shortages again. The government aims to address this by increasing the intake of new teachers through revised training programs.
