International Amnesty Reports on Human Rights Violations in Nicaragua Under Daniel Ortega
International Amnesty has condemned the unprecedented human rights violations occurring in Nicaragua under President Daniel Ortega’s regime. As stated by Ana Piqué, the organization’s director for the Americas, various groups, including indigenous leaders, journalists, and human rights defenders, face imprisonment, exile, or disappearance in a climate of fear. Human rights abuses have escalated since an anti-government uprising in 2018, resulting in thousands of arbitrary arrests and a call for the Ortega government to cease oppressive practices and restore the rights of those affected.
