Charges Dropped Against Philip Cox in Stabbing Case After Jury Deadlock

The State has dropped an attempted murder charge against Philip Cox, who was accused of stabbing his ex-partner, Cristal O’Brien, after a jury failed to reach a verdict. The trial judge highlighted the challenges in proving intent for such charges. Cox had pleaded guilty to assault, aggravated burglary, and the production of a knife. A sentence hearing for the remaining charges is scheduled for January 20, with a victim impact statement to be prepared.
