Reviving Ancient Aqueduct to Combat Water Shortages in Attica
The EYDAP is set to activate the historic Hadrian Aqueduct, originally built in the 2nd century, to address water scarcity in Attica. EYDAP’s director, Katerina Dimitriou, highlighted the initiative’s goal of using recycled water for irrigation, beginning with a pilot project in Chalandri. The project aims to create a green zone in collaboration with local municipalities to conserve drinking water while facilitating irrigation for public parks and schools. The aqueduct, a remarkable ancient engineering feat, is being repurposed as a modern solution to ongoing water challenges.
