UAE Promises US No Arms Supply to Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces Amid Ongoing War
American lawmakers reported that the United Arab Emirates assured Washington it would not supply arms to the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan. Non-governmental organizations have accused the UAE of providing weaponry to these paramilitary forces, allegations the UAE has denied. U.S. officials stated that the UAE’s commitments would be evaluated by January 17, 2024, with Congress officials using arms sales as leverage to reduce violence in Sudan, where a conflict between two generals has devastated the country since April 2023.
