Basel Aims to Transform into a 10-Minute City Model

Basel’s government has approved a proposal to develop the city into a ’10-Minute City’, where all essential services can be accessed within a short walk or bike ride. LDP politician Michael Hug argues that this approach enhances environmental sustainability and combats urban sprawl. Examples from successful implementations in cities like Paris, led by Mayor Anne Hidalgo, showcase the benefits of pedestrian and cyclist-friendly urban planning. Hug aims to create neighborhoods where residential and workspaces are well-balanced, promoting public transport and reducing car dependency.
